I thought about leading my first retreat for 10 years… but I was terrified.

Fast forward to today: I’ve led retreats in Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, France, India, Indonesia and locations across the United States.

Retreats have been key to creating my dream life.

They’ve given me visibility, community, connections, adventure, and partnerships. I have built closer relationships with my clients and created repeat customers who helped spread the word about my brand. The retreats have funded my travel to many different places. They’ve given me an opportunity to create bangin’ curriculum that I still use today.

But make no mistake: my learning curve was steep.

Even though I had a crystal clear vision in my mind of what I wanted…the reality was not so glamorous.

My first three retreats ran with less than five people.

The result? I paid my own way while working between 12 and 20 hours a day to serve my clients.

After I came home, I felt confused.

  • People raved about the experiences, so why weren’t my retreats selling like hotcakes?

  • I loved what I was doing, but how could I get paid well for it?

  • My clients got huge results, so why weren’t recommending my retreats to all their friends?

Luckily, I kept detailed notes about my trip planning. I applied lessons learned and…

My next retreat sold out!

I now know how to sell retreats like hot cakes.

I now understand what makes an experience rave-worthy..

I can now anticipate my client’s needs and desires (even the needs and desires they don’t know they have until after they arrive!).

I want to teach you everything I’ve learned so that you can fast-track your success and avoid the common mistakes to planning retreats.

I believe in the transformational power of travel, and I want to make sure more people can make a living offering high-quality, life changing retreats to their audience.

Week 1:

Module 1 - Mindset Matters

Running international retreats is inherently challenging. In fact, it's downright weird if you do not hit a stumbling block (or 20...). Because of all this, your mindset before, during and after the retreat will make a huge difference for you and your clients. In this module, you will:

  • Learn about the ideal mindset to cultivate before your retreat. Rest assured that you will also get tips for mindset during and after the experience.

  • Discover your "why." Having your "why" and reminding yourself of it regularly is key to a positive mindset.

  • Create your vision, which will support your mindset and guide your work throughout this course.

At the end of module 1, you also have a bonus section: The Top 6 Mistakes People Make When Planning a Retreat. We've identified these mistakes and will teach you to avoid them over the course of the program.

Week 2:

Module 2 - Location

Location, location, location!

Real estate agents love to tout the high value of a good location. Choosing the right spot is just as valuable for us as retreat leaders.

Luckily, there are many wonderful places to hold a retreat. Make sure to choose carefully, as this can have a big impact on your retreaters' experience.

In this module, you will learn:

  • The exact questions to ask yourself when choosing retreat locations.

  • What to do if a retreat center wants a hefty down payment.

  • How to avoid common mistakes with choosing your retreat location.

  • About the importance of food at your venue, and how to ensure your retreaters eat well.

  • Best practices to honor a place and its local people.

And more!

Week 3: Integration + Q&A

This is your time to work live with me! If you cannot make this call, you can submit your questions before the session. These calls will be recorded for those who cannot make them.

Week 4:

Module 3 - Rock Your Timeline

There are so many things to do! How do you balance it all? This module was designed to help you stay organized and think about timing -- from when to send a welcome packet, begin marketing, or hold the retreat itself.

In the coming pages, we will cover:

  • When in your career to lead a retreat (spoiler alert: you can start whenever you want)

  • How to choose when to travel to your destination.

  • Planning your retreat around impactful moments or events.

  • How to best prepare for your retreat (i.e. the step-by-step timeline you'll need to follow).

  • Choosing the length of your retreat.

Week 5:

Module 4 - Retreat Theme & Curriculum

To theme or not to theme? It's a common question.

While there are few hard rules in retreat design, we do recommend you choose a theme.

A theme can make your job easier, even if it's broad (think "kundalini yoga," "New Year's reset retreat," or "self-care in nature"). It will help attract your ideal clients, give you a focus for activities, and more.

In this PDF, you'll also find information about retreat curriculum, since your theme will guide the creation of any workshops.

As we go through curriculum design, we will answer questions such as:

  • How do I leave enough space in my itinerary, so participants actually feel like they retreated?

  • How do I create continuity in the curriculum?

  • How do I pair curriculum and activities so that I get my clients to their final goal?

And more!

Week 6: Integration + Q&A

This is your time to work live with me! If you cannot make this call, you can submit your questions before the session. These calls will be recorded for those who cannot make them.

Week 7:

Module 5 - Money

Managing money can feel daunting! Thus, it's no surprise that many retreat leaders feel a block around finances.

For example: You might stress about your revenue. How many people will you need to break even, let alone turn a profit? And when should you pay contractors? And how do you work in different currencies?

These are important questions and concerns!

In this module, you will learn the answers to the following questions:

  • How much should I charge?

  • Are budgets necessary?

  • How do I make a budget?

  • What expenses are commonly overlooked by retreat leaders?

  • Should I have a refund policy? What factors should I consider?

  • What are the pros and cons of offering scholarships?

  • How do I negotiate with contractors?

  • What is an emergency fund and what do you use it for?

Week 8:

Module 6 - Partners & Collaborators

There are so many things to do! How do you balance it all?

This module was designed to help you stay organized and think about timing -- from when to send a welcome packet, begin marketing, or hold the retreat itself.

In the coming pages, we will cover:

  • When in your career to lead a retreat (spoiler alert: you can start whenever you want)

  • How to choose when to travel to your destination

  • Planning your retreat around impactful moments or events

  • How to best prepare for your retreat (i.e. the step-by-step timeline you'll need to follow)

  • Choosing the length of your retreat

...and more!

Week 9: Integration + Live Q&A

This is your time to work live with me! If you cannot make this call, you can submit your questions before the session. These calls will be recorded for those who cannot make them.

Week 10:

Module 7 - Community Building

Bringing like-minded people together seeds connections... and can make sure your offerings sell out.

We’ll cover

  • Awesome models for community building events. Use these to make sure your gatherings have personality and make an impact!

  • Hot tips to make sure you have a great crowd and keep everyone engaged.

  • How to make sure your events match your retreat values and priorities. Everything you do should reflect and build confidence in your brand.

Week 11:

Module 8 - Get to Know Your Customers

Without customers, you won't have a retreat business. This week, you will:

  • Create a profile of your ideal client. That way, you will better understand how to write marketing copy that appeals to them, what retreat activities they'll most want, where they want to travel, etc...

  • Hear us discuss making retreats application-only, what questions to ask so you know someone is a good fit for your trip, and more.

  • Gain the tools and find the templates you need to talk to your potential travelers. This is a critical step so you build a retreat people will actually attend and so you passively market your retreat, generating interest before you even open registration.

By the end of this section, your retreat will have the sort of focus that makes marketing easier and more fun. Along these lines, you'll notice you feel better prepared to talk about the experience on sales calls. When you're clear on your offering, you know quickly if someone is a fit for the experience and can get them excited about signing up!

Week 12: Integration + Live Q&A

This is your time to work live with me! If you cannot make this call, you can submit your questions before the session. These calls will be recorded for those who cannot make them.

Week 13:

Module 9 - Website & Marketing Tips

In this module, we will look at very specific aspects of your marketing, especially your website. You'll learn how to craft each component of your sales page, including how to draft the best copy possible.

We'll also cover tips related to social media, email lists, webinars, and marketing consultants/agencies.

Week 14:

Module 10 - Preparing Your Traveler's

Before your retreat, you must focus on earning participants' trust. To do this, you must demonstrate that you know their needs and have their safety and joy in mind.

In Module 11, you learn how to prepare your retreaters for the journey ahead. You'll learn how to create a bangin' welcome packet, thoughtful introduction calls, informative pre-trip emails, and more.

Through your dedication to these pre-retreat to-do's, you'll provide people with the psychological safety they need to get the most out of the experience you've so carefully planned. You'll prime them to show up open to activities, challenges, and workshops that will facilitate meaningful transformation.

Week 15: Integration + Live Q&A

This is your time to work live with me! If you cannot make this call, you can submit your questions before the session. These calls will be recorded for those who cannot make them.

  • What you need to do the day your travelers arrive.

  • Exactly what you need to do at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of your retreat to make sure everything runs smoothly.

  • How to run an effective traveler orientation

  • Ways to wrap up so people leave with gratitude and excited to travel with you again.

  • Tips for how to take care of yourself and others while on retreat.

Week 17:

Module 12 - Staying Organized

When you're organizing, marketing, preparing for, and running a retreat, there are many moving parts!

It can all feel overwhelming. How do you know what marketing is working? How do you balance our normal work with the additional work of putting on the retreat? How do you prioritize the long to-do list?

We will share some of our favorite ways to stay on top of all the things! We'll discuss best practices, as well as the difference between your public and internal itineraries, and the necessity of each of them.
